Canyon finds high-quality results from aircore drilling at Ngaoundal within Minim Martap Bauxite Project

Canyon Resources Limited has recently found high-quality results from aircore drilling at Ngaoundal within Minim Martap Bauxite Project, a World Class, Tier One Bauxite asset in Cameroon. Results averaged 43.5% aluminium oxide and 1.05% silicon dioxide for the 49 aircore holes drilled at the three plateaux within the Ngaoundal licence. With several drill holes intersecting high-grade, low-contaminant bauxite, Ngaoundal’s resource of 88 million tonnes grading 41.8 per cent aluminium oxide and 1.3 per cent silicon dioxide could be upgraded. Canyon’s chief geologist Dr. Alexander Shaw said: “These drilling results from the Ngaoundal plateaux are very positive as they showed a strong improvement in the grade from the previous resource on the plateau.” According to the report, the results from...

China’s new energy vehicles production records first-ever Y-o-Y decline in July: SMM

According to the latest update from Shanghai Metals Market, about 73,500 new energy vehicles obtained qualification certificates in China in the month of July. This marks a decrease of 43 per cent from a month ago and 18.3 per cent from the same period last year, the first-ever Y-o-Y decline since the NEV sector emerged a few years ago. Installed power battery capacity also shrank by 29 per cent month-on-month and 26.9 per cent year-on-year to 4.69GWh. After a rapid expansion in the first half of the year, China’s NEV sector hit a trough in July, the first full month since the new NEV subsidy scheme and vehicle emission standards took effect. Due to the shift to new emission standards, there had been a rush to clear existing inventories of diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles, resulting...

Belgium’s 2019 aluminium scrap import from France to rise 3%, but to drop from the Netherlands and Germany

The Netherlands, France, and Germany are the three major countries that supply aluminium scrap to Belgium. Our third party data estimates that among these three, France is likely to lead this year by providing 81,174 tonnes, followed by the Netherlands (41,160 tonnes) and Germany (39,673 tonnes). {newsStudioGallery} It is to be noted here Belgium’s aluminium scrap import from France in 2019 is estimated to rise by 3.24 per cent from 78,619 tonnes in 2018. In 2017, the import stood at 76,084 tonnes, which represents a growth of 3.33 per cent in 2018 as well. But the imports from the Netherlands and Germany are likely to stand down this year, following the trend of the previous year. Belgium’s estimated aluminium scrap import from the Netherlands in 2018 was at 46,330 tonnes, while in 2017...

A00 aluminium ingot price remains restraint on muted input costs; Premium price expected to rise

According to Shanghai Metals Market, the A00 aluminium ingot price has remained restrained on Wednesday, August 7, at RMB 13,900 per tonne, amidst muted sentiment across input costs. The average prices are expected to continue remaining the same between RMB 13,880 per tonne and RMB 13,920 per tonne. But the spot contract is expected to be traded at a higher premium price of RMB 50 per tonne. Spot aluminium has been trading at a higher premium for the past couple of days as sellers are holding firm offers on tighter availability and traders purchasing actively on a bullish outlook for the future market. However, the restraint of A00 aluminium ingot price has not touched upon all the major Chinese markets today and therefore, a few places like Foshan, Wuxi, and Hangzhou have seen a drop in...

India aims to upgrade its automotive recycling sector

Based on the recent projection that there will be more than 21 million end-of-life cars in India by 2025, the country’s environment ministry has reportedly started advocating a ‘high focus’ on recycling in the automotive sector. The ministry wants to set up a network first consisting of 20 official automotive recyclers across the country. To start car recycling in India, the government is proposing a recycling target of 75 per cent to 90 per cent for vehicles, depending on the manufacture of the year. This is a drastic change in India’s car recycling sector, given the fact that the vehicle recycling sector in this country primarily consists of small off-the grid players extracting functioning spare parts. Therefore, the official recycling rate is less than 30 per cent. The government’s...

China’s bauxite imports recorded 39.26% growth in H1 2019

The latest Customs data showed that China’s bauxite imports in the first six months of 2019 came in at 56.63 million tonnes, after expanding by 39.26 per cent from the same period last year. Greater domestic production of alumina and tighter supply of the ore could be the two reasons for this growth in China’s bauxite imports. In June, China imported 9.3 million tonnes of bauxite, down 4.17 per cent from 9.7 million tonnes in May but up 33.17 per cent from 6.2 million tonnes in June 2018. The Republic of Guinea, Australia, and Indonesia remained the top three bauxite suppliers to China, accounting for 93.7 per cent of the latter’s total imports in the first half of the year. Guinea, a major source of gibbsite bauxite used in low-temperature production lines, is likely to remain the...

Turkey’s aluminium bar rods and profiles exports to Germany to remain flat in 2019 but exports to Iraq likely to grow

The increasing use of aluminium extrusions in building and construction sector has been generating considerable demand for aluminium bar, rods and profiles across the world. The aerospace industry is also contributing fairly to the rising demand for aluminium profiles. According to the forecast in 2014, the expansion of the global aluminium profile, bar and rod industry is likely to reach 9.7 per cent per annum in the years to come. {newsStudioGallery} To cash on this positive market sentiment in the aluminium bar, rods and profiles industry, Turkey has been increasing the volume of its exports to the various parts of the world. In 2018, the country’s estimated aluminium, bar, rods and profiles exports were at 181,772 tonnes, which in 2019 is expected to rise to 196,170 tonnes, up 8 per...

Chinese prebaked anode prices likely to remain downtrend in H2 2019: SMM

Shanghai Metals Market forecasts that the prices of prebaked anode are unlikely to see a significant rebound in the second half of the year due to excessive capacity. Prices will continue to follow raw materials costs range-bound in the near future. Heating season environmental cuts on carbon mills may only lift the prices of prebaked anode, but after September. In July, the prebaked anode prices failed to record any growth as slow resumption and build-out of aluminium capacity aggravated a supply glut. Moreover, they followed the prices of petroleum coke, which also remained sluggish after producers resumed from maintenance. Petroleum coke is the raw material used to produce prebaked anode. The uptick in June’s prices was mainly buoyed by a price rally of raw materials including...

John Farrer & Co. unveils a range of recyclable aluminium coffee capsules

Coffee roaster John Farrer & Co. (Kendal) Limited has reportedly launched a range of recyclable aluminium coffee capsules, in a bid to mark the 200 th year of the company’s anniversary and address the problem of plastic waste. Farrer chose to use aluminium for their capsules for several reasons. Firstly, the system that is used to make aluminium capsules protects both taste and quality of the coffee and secondly, because of the fact aluminium is recyclable and can be reused in myriad of applications like bicycles, food and medicine packaging, construction materials, and electronic components and electrical power transmission. Once the capsules are used and disposed of, they are collected and sent to recycling plants for smelting and reusing. Besides, aluminium recycling is economically...
