On Friday, December 20, Atlanta-based rolled and recycled aluminium firm Novelis Incorporation confirmed the receipt of approval from China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) for its acquisition of Aleris Corporation for US$2.6 billion. According to Shanghai Metals Market, the A00 aluminium ingot price has decided to end the week with another rise, though marginal, while all the input costs have remained restrained. Marking the fourth straight day of growth, the ingot price today has increased by RMB 10 per tonne to RMB 14,450 per tonne, on Friday, December 20. According to Shanghai Metals Market, the social inventories of primary aluminium in China continued to drop this week, with Guangdong contributing to more than half to the trend. As September was not an exception, it saw a decline of 26 per cent month-on-month amounting to 19,600 tonnes. According to a recent report, the slowdown in the automobile sector in India could not resist the rise in aluminium scrap imports during April-September of the financial year 2019-20. As per the data submitted to the Ministry of Finance, citing figures from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the imports have risen by 6.5 per cent, while the Indian auto sector’s production tumbled 13 per cent. “In the garb of imports for the auto sector, scrap is being consumed in other sectors like electrical transmission and utensils.
