Hindalco Industries Limited has extended the growth of its aluminium product prices with effect from Tuesday, November 3. The price of Hindalco’s aluminium wire rods has been raised by INR 1,750 per tonne from INR 166,350 per tonne to INR 168,100 per tonne, as of November 3. With the latest hike, the company’s aluminium billets price has come in at INR 164,100 per tonne, registering a hike of INR 1,750 per tonne as well from INR 162,350 per tonne. AEM Canada completes post treatment of its HPA product in German trials to produce superfine HPA
AEM Canada Group Inc. has reportedly announced that the design problems with its Cap Chat Plant’s Fluidized Bed Roaster and Calciner have been resolved successfully, while adding that commissioning ramp-up to the current design of 900 tpa High Purity Alumina (HPA) will continue for the rest of the year. AEM Canada has been refurbishing the Cap Chat plant since the past six months after acquiring it from Orbite Technologies Inc in April 2020. The engineering shortcomings in in the Fluidized Bed Roaster and Calciner are now rectified that were previously causing the plant to fail repeatedly. According to the Shanghai Metals Market, A00 aluminium ingot price in China has recorded a surge of RMB 100 per tonne on Tuesday, November 3, to stand at RMB 15,150 per tonne, marking the third consecutive day of rising since October 30. According to a recent report, some of the world’s largest aluminium producers like Norwegian group Norsk Hydro and India’s Hindalco Industries are resisting the London Metals Exchange’s plans of launching a “green aluminium” trading platform. The news came after the companies said they both opposed proposals by the LME to build a separate contract for trading lower carbon aluminium. Rio Tinto, the world’s second-largest miner, is reportedly investing $51 million in upgrading facilities at its Vaudreuil alumina refinery in Quebec, Canada. In July 2020, the United States’ aluminium scrap exports to Mexico increased by 1,700 tonnes or 16.5 per cent month-on-month to stand at 12,000 tonnes, found the US Geological Survey data. In the month earlier, the US aluminium scrap exports to Mexico came in at 10,300 tonnes, increasing from as low as 1,450 tonnes in May. In April, the United States exported 3,700 tonnes of aluminium scrap to Mexico compared with 15,200 tonnes in March. Rusal released its operating results for the third quarter of 2020 on October 27, 2020, revealing that its bauxite production decreased by 1.6 per cent quarter-on-quarter to amount to 3.829 million tonnes. In Q2, the company’s bauxite output was 3.89 million tonnes, increasing by 8.8 per cent Q-o-Q. The decline of output in Q3 was a result of unfavourable weather conditions in Guinea and Jamaica. According to the latest data released by the International Aluminium Institute, alumina production in West Europe declined by 11.09 per cent month-on-month in September 2020 to amount to 433,000 tonnes. In August, production in West Europe was 487,000 tonnes, increasing by 10,000 tonnes or 2.1 per cent from 477,000 tonnes in July 2020. On a year-on-year calculation, West Europe’s alumina production in September 2020 was down by 11.45 per cent from 489,000 tonnes in September 2019. In the third quarter of 2020 (July-September), alumina production in West Europe totalled 1.397 million tonnes, a decrease of 1.69 per cent from 1.421 million tonnes in Q2 2020.
