
According to the latest data released by the International Aluminium Institute, alumina production in West Europe declined by 11.09 per cent month-on-month in September 2020 to amount to 433,000 tonnes. In August, production in West Europe was 487,000 tonnes, increasing by 10,000 tonnes or 2.1 per cent from 477,000 tonnes in July 2020. On a year-on-year calculation, West Europe’s alumina production in September 2020 was down by 11.45 per cent from 489,000 tonnes in September 2019.

In the third quarter of 2020 (July-September), alumina production in West Europe totalled 1.397 million tonnes, a decrease of 1.69 per cent from 1.421 million tonnes in Q2 2020. On a year-on-year basis, production in Q3 2020 stood down by 3.8 per cent from 1.452 million tonnes during the same period last year.
The total alumina production during the first nine months of 2020 stood at 4.239 million tonnes in West Europe.
Alumina production in East & Central Europe also decreased in September 2020 by 7.08 per cent M-o-M to stand at 367,000 tonnes. In August, the output in East & Central Europe was 395,000 tonnes, up by 3.13 per cent from 383,000 tonnes in July. On a yearly basis, alumina production in East & Central Europe during September 2020 was shrunk by 1.08 per cent from 371,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
Total alumina production in East & Central Europe during the third quarter of 2020 came in at 1.145 million tonnes, which was up by 2.97 per cent quarter-on-quarter from 1.112 million tonnes and 3.43 per cent year-on-year from 1.107 million tonnes.
East & Central Europe’s alumina production in the first nine months of the year totalled 3.368 million tonnes, 2.21 per cent higher than 3.295 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
