Primary aluminium production in China estimated to grow until 2024: Antaike
State-backed research house Antaike said on Thursday, June 3, that primary aluminium production in China is expected to increase until 2024, after which secondary or recycled metal will claim a bigger share of consumption. China is by far the world’s biggest aluminium producer. In 2020, the country churned out a record 37.08 million tonnes of the metal. But the government is now determined to cap annual smelting capacity at 45 million tonnes considering carbon emission issues. Hence, producers are looking to recycle more scrap metal instead. Aluminium billet inventories in China have inched up by 1,100 tonnes or 1.2 per cent week-on-week across the five major consumption areas, following the three consecutive weeks of decline. The inventories are thus standing at 89,400 tonnes as of June 3, according to the Shanghai Metals Market. National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has sharply increased its aluminium ingot and aluminium products prices with effect from Tuesday, June 1, after three cuts in a row since May 19. Unit of Chaina Haida collaborates with KUB to supply and install aluminium cladding for projects in Southeast Asia
A unit of China Haida, CHD Engineering and Trading, has teamed with K-United Builder (KUB) to supply and install aluminium products for projects in Singapore and Malaysia. The first project is for a commercial building in Johor, Malaysia, worth S$1.68 million, that requires aluminium cladding and roof work. The project will start on August 2, 2021, and expectedly complete on December 1, 2022. The other projects worth S$ 0.75 million are in Singapore. The United States aluminium scrap imports from Canada in 1Q2021 totalled 98,300 tonnes – 478.24 per cent higher than 17,000 tonnes a year ago but 4.56 per cent less than 103,000 tonnes a quarter ago . In March, the United States imported 34,800 tonnes of aluminium scrap from Canada, which registered an increase of 18.77 per cent from 29,300 tonnes in February.
