North America’s alumina production during January-May drops 1.38% to 1.642MT but output in South America grows 11.8%

Hindalco Industries Limited further increased its aluminium wire rod and billets prices, although slower than the previous day, with effect from Saturday, July 3. In April 2021, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States stood at 30,300 tonnes, almost flat compared to 29,700 tonnes in March 2021, found US Geological Survey. In February, India imported 27,200 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US, 12.86 per cent more than 24,100 tonnes in January. According to the data released by the United States Geological Survey for April 2021, US domestic primary aluminium production stood at 72,000 tonnes – 4 per cent or 3,000 tonnes less than 75,000 tonnes produced in March 2021. On a year-on-year calculation, the output edged 21.74 per cent or 20,000 tonnes lower than 92,000 tonnes. The daily average production in the said month was 2,410 tonnes, unchanged from that in March and 21 per cent less than in April 2020.
