On Friday, September 17, the United States Department of Commerce announced the final anti-dumping duties on the imports of certain aluminium foil from Armenia, Brazil, Oman, Russia, and Turkey. A few months ago, the Commerce Department made a preliminary determination that aluminium foil imported from the above mentioned countries was being sold at a lower than the fair value. The United States had then enforced a cash deposit equivalent to 188.84 per cent of the product value until the final countervailing duties. On Monday, September 20, En+ Group has unveiled its Pathway to Net Zero Report, providing comprehensive detail of initiatives that it is pursuing to achieve its climate goals announced in January 2021. En+ Group, the world’s biggest producer of low carbon aluminium and independent hydropower, aims at becoming net zero by 2050 and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 35 per cent by 2030. According to the latest data shown by the General Administration of Customs on Saturday, September 18, China imported 247,547 tonnes of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products, which also included primary metal. That was 20.7 per cent lower than 312,086 tonnes in July and down 42.4 per cent from a year ago. Arrivals of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products to China in August 2021 hit the lowest since May. In August 2020, imports hit the second-highest on price arbitrage made it cheaper for domestic buyers to source overseas metal. National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has decreased its aluminium ingot and aluminium products prices as the LME aluminium benchmark price signs off from the 13-year high. With effect from Friday, September 17, NALCO’s aluminium ingot price has come in at INR 242,850-246,350 per tonne, down by INR 3,000 per tonne or 1.2 per cent from INR 245,850-249,350 per tonne on September 11. After month-long negotiations, a Japanese buyer has reportedly nodded to pay a premium of $220 per tonne for aluminium shipments for the December quarter of 2021, an increase of 19 per cent from the current quarter in tandem with the higher overseas premium, said two sources directly involved in the pricing talks.
