The furniture company Fearon creates bespoke designer pieces to elevate the insides of a house while keeping the commitment to sustainability intact with the inclusion of 100% recyclable aluminium for their flagship projects.
Furniture design has evolved beyond functionality to become a creative discipline that showcases unique and artistic pieces that add character to any space. Some designers are pushing boundaries with unconventional styles and vibrant colours, creating conversation starters and focal points. Australian design company FEARON, founded by brothers Jack and Mark Fearon, is one such company that explores new horizons of aesthetic expression. FEARON creates custom aluminium furniture for interior designers, architects, art collectors, and design enthusiasts.
FEARON began as a fabrication workshop in 2019, making large-scale water trucks. Their furniture exploration started with offcuts from a tank, which led to the creation of the 'The Chub' stool design.
Jack implied: "We taught ourselves how to build everything from the tank to the pumping system—Mark has a background in boiler-making and worked fixing big ships around Australia, while I did a stint of plumbing when I was younger. We started making metal furniture as a creative outlet and to have some fun with design."
While FEARON's furniture pieces have an idiosyncratic style, they are also functional art that incorporates sustainability features. The use of aluminium - a material that can be infinitely recycled - is a nod to their experience in making tanks. The designers focus on vibrant colours, durability, and strength, adding a personal touch with colours from their own homes.
Jack pointed out: "We've chosen to use mostly aluminium for our designs, which in itself is 100 per cent recyclable. We also always look for ways to use scrap pieces of aluminium in newer ways. We're in the process of playing around with a kiln, where we'll be able to melt metal offcuts and turn them into furniture and art pieces."
FEARON balances sculptural aesthetics and functionality through experimental design and craftsmanship. Their departure from typical design norms offers a refreshing and dynamic approach to interior design. Each piece, from sofas to beds, cabinets to tables, is like a work of art. FEARON is also working on one-off items such as mirrors, bathroom cabinets, lights, desks, and rocking chairs to add to their collection.
Jack also publicised: "We have been working on some exciting one-off singular items that are a lot wilder in terms of design and colour use. We are really experimenting with asymmetry."
