S.A.V. S.p.A. Societa' Alluminio Veneto has acquired the ASI Performance Standard Certification for the sorting plus melting of raw materials and metal scrap to induce production of aluminium alloy ingots at the Colombo and Dell’Artigianato facilities in Italy. The total production capacity of the S.A.V. S.p.A. plants in Northern Italy is almost 100,000 tonnes per year.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today, on March 23rd, announced that S.A.V. S.p.A. has achieved successful certification against ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and circulation of aluminium. The ingots that the company boasts about are procured after rigorous recycling of aluminium and are used in various industrial purposes like, automobile making, household appliances, naval, aeronautical, building, industrial machinery, electrical, and the food industry.
As known, the ASI certification process is an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation programme and is the only compact yet voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard honours environmental, social and 'principles by governance and criteria', with the ultimate aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It practically sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which refers to key issues such as biodiversity, rights of indigenous people and greenhouse gas emission.
One of the world’s leading independent testing, inspection and consultancy body, Bureau Veritas Certification, has carried out their third party audits.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “ASI warmly congratulates S.A.V. S.p.A. on achieving Performance Standard Certification at the Colombo and dell’Artigianato plants in Italy. S.A.V. S.p.A. is a key player in the circular economy through its reuse of metal scrap for the creation of new alloys. Recycling scrap — from its customers, third-party companies, and the product “end of life” waste stream – back into productive use in these facilities that follow industry-leading environmental, social and governance criteria is a win-win, which shows the company’s commitment to sustainability in aluminium production, and a broader circular economy.”
Valerio Rossetto, CEO of S.A.V. S.p.A., said: “We are extremely pleased to receive the certification of our activity according to the ASI standard. For us, it represents the award of the commitment profuse over the years to environmental, social and economic sustainability. A commitment that has led to important results now recognised by the ASI certification, but which has to proceed with a continuous search for improvement in social and environmental impacts, also through the development of technologies aimed at promoting the circular economy of aluminium and the reduction of CO2 emissions.”
Most of the time when the purchase of a product is made, we often forget to take in account the gain or loss it ushers on the environment. S.A.V. S.p.A. wishes to emphasise its commitment towards sustainable development and carbon less production. After the ASI grant, whoever chooses the company as a supplier will not only be guaranteed with quality and ample quantity of alumunium but also reliability with respect to the founding principles of ASI: Governance, Environmental Sustainability and Social Sustainability.
