Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has announced that it has successfully certified Thai Beverage Can (TBC) against Performance Standard Certification with Provisional Status and against Chain of Custody Standard Certification for the manufacturer of aluminium can body and ends at its material conversion plant in Saraburi, Thailand.
The facility at Saraburi has an annual production capacity of more than 3 billion can bodies and over 4 billion ends, making it one of the largest aluminium can manufacturers in Southeast Asia.
The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain, while the ASI CoC Standard sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “ASI warmly congratulates TBC on its dual certification, and for being the first ASI Certified Member headquartered in Thailand. Beverage cans are a long-standing contributor to the circular economy, with used cans continually being recycled back into productive use. TBC’s customers for can bodies and ends now have the assurance that the packaging for their beverages is produced following industry-leading environmental, social and governance criteria.”
Mr. Saroj Chayavivatkul, President of TBC, said: “We have the responsibility to protect the environment for the next generation. Aluminium beverage packaging is infinitely recyclable, providing one of the most sustainable packaging solutions for our customers and the consumers. We, at Thai Beverage Can, are extremely proud to be the first beverage can manufacturer in Southeast Asia to achieve ASI certification. More importantly, we are extremely proud to be able to contribute to the well-being of the world, and would continue to work closely with our business partners to further our sustainability commitment.”
The independent, third-party audits of the TBC facility were carried out by TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH.
