The 46th US President Joe Biden is scheduled to attend the G20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi on September 8, where he will be chauffeured throughout India in the "Beast," a heavily armoured limousine under the care of the US Secret Service.
An enhanced security apparatus, including the world's most expensive cars, cutting-edge weaponry, bomb detection capabilities, a central command centre, and a network of independent communication lines, is being established by the USA Secret Service.
In addition to Air Force One and helicopters for air transportation, President Biden will have an extensive fleet of vehicles, including the "Beast" for ground transportation during the summit. This heavily armoured limousine boasts military-grade protection, bulletproof windows as a matter of course, and even features a tear gas dispenser. It is transported to various locations worldwide by Air Force One whenever the US President travels. The chauffeur who operates the Beast receives specialized training from the US Secret Service. Ahead of President Biden's visit, the Beast has already arrived in India.
The vehicle's armour is composed of aluminium, ceramic, and steel, providing robust protection for passengers, even in the event of chemical warfare. It is also equipped with its own oxygen supply to safeguard occupants from chemical or biological attacks. Its front doors are constructed with a thickness of 5 inches, while the rear doors are an impressive 8 inches thick. Furthermore, the vehicle features a five-layered composition of glass and polycarbonate, ensuring its ability to withstand the impact of a bomb blast.
The Beast, a remarkable presidential limousine, boasts an array of advanced features. Its impressive capabilities include:
Surprisingly, despite its limousine classification, it can comfortably accommodate seven passengers and offers a host of exclusive amenities not found in typical vehicles. Remarkably, this imposing vehicle weighs approximately 2,000 pounds.
The Beast's most recent iteration debuted in 2018, crafted by General Motors at a staggering cost exceeding $1.5 million. The Beast made its inaugural appearance in 2001, coinciding with the tenure of President George W. Bush.
The United States initially intended to deploy 75-80 vehicles for the upcoming G20 Summit. However, following productive discussions with the Indian Government, both parties have mutually agreed to limit the US vehicle presence to 60 units.
In anticipation of President Biden's attendance at the summit, comprehensive security arrangements have been in progress for several weeks. A dedicated team of security personnel has already arrived in India and is actively collaborating with the US Embassy in Delhi to ensure a robust security plan.
