Arconic to utilise DTE’s advanced LP-LIBS™ Analyser, boosting manufacturing efficiency & product quality

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

In a move that underscores the growing importance of advanced process analytics in metals manufacturing, Iceland-based metals analytics specialist DTE has announced a strategic collaboration with Arconic Corporation, a global leader in aluminium products, including sheets, plates, and more. The partnership aims to elevate process efficiency and product quality by integrating DTE’s cutting-edge molten metal composition analysis technology into Arconic’s operations.

The collaboration kicks off with a pilot project at a selected Arconic facility in North America. This initiative will utilise DTE’s advanced LP-LIBS™ Analyser, designed for real-time chemical composition analysis of molten aluminium in furnace operations. The technology enables precise process control, boosting throughput, product consistency, and profitability. This pilot follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two companies in October 2024, marking a significant step forward in their ongoing partnership.

“At Arconic, we are constantly exploring cutting-edge solutions to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality. Collaborating with DTE aligns with our commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to optimise operations. DTE’s real-time molten metal analysis capabilities present a significant opportunity to increase manufacturing efficiency and product quality while optimising the utilisation of scrap and recycled materials. We are eager to see the impact and assess further integration of DTE’s solutions across our facilities,” said Shawn Sullivan, Managing Director, ATC.

The collaboration is being led by the Arconic Technology Centre (ATC) near Pittsburgh, PA, which will oversee the pilot project and assess the potential for scaling DTE’s technology across Arconic’s global manufacturing network, pending successful results.

“We are excited to launch this strategic collaboration with Arconic, a leader in the global aluminium industry. This partnership marks a major milestone for DTE as we work to drive innovation and optimise manufacturing processes within Arconic’s global operations. Arconic’s expertise in metallurgy and dedication to technological advancement make them an ideal partner. We look forward to demonstrating the impact of our solutions on manufacturing efficiency and quality. We’re confident that DTE’s solutions will bring significant value to Arconic’s operations. Looking ahead, we expect our technology to play a key role in boosting throughput and optimising scrap utilisation—delivering meaningful reductions in carbon footprint while driving profitability,” added Jakob Ásmundsson, CEO of DTE.
