Arconic, the world’s sixth largest aluminium producer with corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, announced yesterday, July 16, 2018, that it signed a long-term multiyear contract with Boeing. According to the contract signed, Arconic will supply aluminium sheet and plate for all models produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is the largest contract till date and captures growth in the build rate increased of the Boeing 737 program.

The new agreement between Arconic and Boeing is for the supply of aluminium for wing skins on all of Boeing’s metallic structure airplanes, including polished fuselage skins and wing ribs. Under this agreement, the companies will also continue to collaborate on new, high strength and corrosion-resistant alloys, including aluminium lithium that could be used for complex structural solutions.
The deal draws on material produced by Arconic’s very thick plate stretcher, which began commercial production last year. It is also capable of stretching the thicket aluminium plate in the world, used to support composite wings. Besides, Arconic is expected to offer expanded capabilities and capacity in thick plate products once combined with its new horizontal heat treat furnace in 2019.
