Andritz launches state-of-the-art refrigerator recycling line at Derichebourg España

International technology group Andritz has initiated a comprehensive refrigerator recycling line at the Derichebourg España facility in Madrid. This innovative plant, designed to process up to 120 refrigerators containing CFCs and VHC (pentane) per hour, stands as a testament to advanced recycling technology and environmental stewardship.

The core of the newly established line is the ADuro QZ shredder, a marvel of modern engineering. Operating as a fully sealed system, it utilises impact forces to disassemble refrigerators into their constituent components. This meticulous separation ensures that valuable materials, including iron, copper, aluminium, plastics, and polyurethane foam, are efficiently recovered for reuse. 

Aluminium, in particular, is notable for its ability to be recycled infinitely without losing its original properties, underscoring its crucial role in sustainable recycling practices.

The engineering manager at Derichebourg España, Ruth Carpallo Sánchez, narrated during the commissioning of the project: "At Derichebourg España we aim to recycle and reuse as much material as possible while operating our facilities with maximum efficiency, lowest environmental impact and high safety standards." 

A key feature of the recycling line is the subsequent matrix degassing process, which extracts blowing agents from the insulating foam. This process enables the plant to meet the highest European environmental standards, ensuring that the recycling operations are not only efficient but also environmentally viable. 

In addition to the ADuro QZ shredder, Andritz provided the necessary equipment for feeding refrigerators into the system, incorporating advanced safety technology and conveyor systems for transporting processed materials to the next stages of recycling. This seamless integration of technology underscores Andritz's commitment to delivering holistic recycling solutions.
