Aluminium is becoming more popular among businesses and consumers as they prioritise sustainability in their products, according to the Aluminum Association, the industry’s leading voice, representing companies that make 70 per cent of the aluminium and aluminium products shipped in North America.
Choosing aluminium means selecting an indefinitely recyclable material that supports good-paying jobs while also helping the region in meeting climate and energy goals.
When talking about packaging, aluminium beverage cans contain 3X to 12X more recycled content than competing packaging types, which is one reason aluminium is counted as the best sustainable solution. Again, when commenting on aluminium's usage in buildings and construction, aluminium structures can weigh substantially less than steel while providing comparable strength, making it a preferred choice.
The introduction of the EV and the rapid growth in the sector has been a demand driver for aluminium due to its lightweight and high strength. It also needs to be noted that an aluminium-intensive vehicle can achieve up to a 20 per cent reduction in total life cycle energy consumption.
The aluminium sector continually develops new technologies to reduce emissions, boost productivity, and work towards a more sustainable future.
