The European leader in the business of manufacturing and sales of aluminium rolled products for diverse industries worldwide, ALVANCE Aluminium Duffel will supply its range of aluminium products Ecolite and Superlite to Mercedes-Benz AG to fit in Mercedes-Benz EQS’ wings, doors, roof and side frame panels. Mercedes-Benz EQS’ is an all-electric 5 seater luxury sedan.
The aluminium components are ideally suited for this particular section due to their lightweight. The green metal is also an inherently sustainable material, as it can be recycled infinitely, all while preserving its unique properties.
Ecolite is manufactured at ALVANCE Aluminium Duffel as a range of products for inner panels and structural applications, while Superlite is the range of products for outer body panel applications.
ALVANCE Aluminium Duffel is committed to supporting Mercedes-Benz AG in achieving its ambition to make its fleet of new cars CO2 neutral by 2039.
The ALVANCE Aluminium Duffel plant is recognised as the pioneer in the production of automotive body sheets. The facility has been continuously working to increase the amount of scrap that is used in its operations - which means an increase in recycled content of the final products.
The facility featuring state-of-the-art technology, including the widest automotive cold rolling mill in Europe and a CALP-line, ALVANCE Aluminium Duffel is using 100% green electrical power for its operations and in addition, the company performs annual environmental life cycle assessments (LCA) of its automotive products to quantify the environmental impact over the entire life cycle of these products.
Dr Ir. Dirk Inghels, the Director of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment at Duffel said, “Life cycle assessments are a vital tool for mapping the upstream impacts and downstream benefits of our products, helping us to identify where environmental improvements can be made at various stages of the product life cycle.”
“At Duffel, we’ve been undertaking LCA’s on our automotive products since 2012 and we will continue to use them as a technique to monitor both the CO2 footprint of what we manufacture and to identify key areas for improvement. As a result of this regular monitoring, our automotive products today have a cradle to gate CO2 footprint that makes them best in class – something which we know Mercedes-Benz AG and their customers appreciate.”
