The global industry leader in bauxite, alumina and aluminium products, Alcoa Corporation, with a vision to reinvent the aluminium industry for a sustainable future, has been recognized as a leader for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance with its most recent inclusion in the S&P Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI).
Alcoa has been ranked among the companies with excellent ESG performance in the annual indices since the DJSI was established in 1999.
This year, Alcoa's ESG score was in the 96th percentile, placing it in the top spot among all foreign companies in Alcoa's industry peer group. For the aluminium industry, Alcoa was ranked first in the economic and governance categories and environmental categories (biodiversity, environmental reporting, operational eco-efficiency, and water-related risks) (occupational health and safety and social reporting).
The S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, which included over 13,000 global companies in 2022, is the source of Alcoa's ESG ranking.
Sonya Elam Harden, the Executive Vice President and Chief External Affairs Officer at Alcoa, said, "Alcoa's continuous recognition via the DJSI indices affirms the vital work we do to embed sustainability across our business and operations, beginning with responsible mining and active engagement with our communities."
"At Alcoa, sustainability is one of our strategic priorities, and we have the vision to reinvent the aluminium industry."
The technology roadmap for Alcoa, which includes ground-breaking innovations with the potential to decarbonize the upstream supply chain for aluminium, supports the company's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, and offers a competitive advantage for the future, bolsters the company's vision.
The business participates in the most extensive third-party system for the aluminium sector, the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). It works with the International Council on Mining and Metals to support global sustainability projects (ICMM).
Alcoa collaborated on a Sector Transition Strategy (STS) this year with the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) and Mission Possible Partnership (MPP), which outlines the possibilities for decarbonization in the aluminium sector in line with attaining a 1.5°C scenario.
