At the Manitowoc Public Library, the Christmas trees are hard to miss because of the bright display of the aluminium Christmas trees. Manitowoc Aluminum Kitsch, a Manitowoc-based aluminium speciality company, produced and branded these trees from 1959 to 1972 and is deemed to be the largest producer of aluminium trees in the country.

Two aluminium tree enthusiasts, Jordan Kabat and Barbara Bundy, are hosting the event, where they are celebrating and teaching the community about the rich history of the aluminium trees. To this, Kabat has expressed that he has grown up with these aluminium trees and has learned about them from his grandmother, who has been involved in the initial making processes.

Jordan Kabat, the Vice President of Manitowoc Aluminum Kitsch-Mas Inc, stated, "When I was growing up, of course, I didn't really think anything of it. It's just kind of a normal thing. And it wasn't until much later that I kind of discovered that wasn't something everybody did and it was really kind of special."

This year marks the biggest because a total of 167 aluminium Christmas trees are on display at the public library and throughout the downtown.

Barbara Bundy, the President of Mantowoc Aluminum Kitsch, commented, "With us, it's one here, one there, but it's fun to see them up and being used and people noticing them and celebrating them. You know, appreciating what we do, so it's fun."

Colours of these aluminium Christmas tree ranges from the classic silver to green gold and sizes from 2 feet to 14 feet, these trees are deemed to be adding sparkle during the holidays for decades.

Elsa Althen stated, "I just think it's great that the people are organising this and they are doing it for the community, as it is very important to preserve the history."

Concurrently, Kathy Schmill owns two evergleam trees and has concluded that there is a lot to love about these trees.

Elsa Althen further added, "How they are made and just the history of people finding them in their trash, from attics and rummage sales, which is just the history of Manitowoc"

The trees will be on display through early January and there is no other city in the country that has been undertaking such initiatives, display and celebration.
