JFA Yachts has released a construction update on its 50.5-metre hybrid explorer project, confirming that the vessel is currently in the outfitting phase, well in advance of its scheduled launch later this year. This development represents a significant milestone in the company's ongoing innovation in hybrid yacht engineering.

Designed by Humphreys Yacht Design, the all-aluminium hybrid explorer showcases advanced naval architecture and exterior styling. A key highlight of the vessel is its extensive tender and toy handling capabilities.
According to HYD Co-Director Tom Humphreys, "We took a highly integrated approach to the design, striving to marry all the technical, functional, and Client-specific requirements with a rigorous naval architecture effort to underpin her operational abilities."
The yacht will be equipped with three dedicated cranes, a davit for a 9.25-metre tender, a concealed foredeck crane for deploying a rescue boat and Jet Skis and a versatile deck crane with extended reach covering the aft deck, stern platform, engine room and lazarette, underscoring its operational efficiency and functionality.
The critical design objective of the 50-metre light displacement explorer ensures clear separation between guest social areas and service zones. To achieve this, a centreline walkway has been integrated into the tank deck, enabling the crew to access the engine room directly and discreetly. This solution, described as "unusual and technically challenging" for a vessel of this class, highlights the project's focus on operational efficiency without compromising guest privacy.
The main deck accommodates the galley, main saloon and dining area, along with an exterior lounge featuring a bar, integrated barbecue, sun lounger space and a day head, blending functionality with guest comfort.
The owner's suite occupies the deck above and includes a private lounge, office space and an exterior lounge equipped with a Jacuzzi. Below deck are four additional guest cabins. The vessel's interiors are being developed by Milan-based design studio m2atelier, known for its recent high-profile collaboration with Italian shipyard Azimut.
Frédéric Jaouen, CEO of JFA Yachts, commented: "This ambitious and technically complex project embodies our expertise in aluminium construction combined with composite materials. We are proud to collaborate with Humphreys Yacht Design to bring such an exceptional vessel to life."
The yacht integrates a comprehensive solar panel array and high-capacity battery system, allowing for extended periods of silent, emission-free operation while at anchor, in harbour or during low-speed cruising.
In hybrid boost mode, the vessel is capable of reaching a top speed of 20 knots, with an impressive range exceeding 5,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots, underscoring its efficiency and sustainability in long-range exploration.
JFA Yachts' 50.5-metre hybrid explorer is constructed entirely from aluminium, showcasing lightweight efficiency and structural strength ideal for long-range, sustainable cruising.
