Aluminium Association updates on semi-finished aluminium

According to Aluminium Association reports, estimated shipments of Aluminum Drawing Stock, Bare Wire and Rod & Bar by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled 103.0 million pounds during January 2014, off 9.0 percent from the January 2013 total of 113.1 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments increased 14.0 percent over the December 2013 total of 90.3 million pounds. Preliminary shipments for 2013 totaled 1,285.4 million pounds, up 10.2 percent over the 2012 total of 1,166.5 million pounds.
The Association’s “Index of Net New Orders of Aluminum Mill Products” declined 1.2 percent year over year in January. Orders for flat roll products (sheet, plate, can stock and foil) decreased 3.5 percent while order receipts for extruded products increased 12.4 percent. Orders for drawing stock were off 16.3 percent from last year. Compared to December, orders were up 19.6 percent.
