Aluminium alloy application may rise on increasing construction of NEVs charging stations in China

EDITED BY : DEBANJALI SENGUPTA 2MINS READ

According to the report from Shanghai Metals Market, China is likely to increase the construction of charging stations for new-energy vehicles (NEVs) in the next two years, as production and sales of NEVs in China are on the rise. As per the estimate by market participants, production and sales of NEVs would reach compound annual growth rates (CAGR) of above 50 per cent within the next five years.

A CAGR rate above 50 per cent, according to market insiders, is expected to bolster the NEV market further to around RMB 200 billion with the next five years.

Until July 2018, some 662,000 charging stations have already been built across China, of which 275,000 stations are public and 387,000 are private, showed data presented at the Shanghai New Energy Vehicle International Conference & Expo 2018.

The conference was held across August 23-25, focusing on the NEV industry, intelligent technology, NEVs for logistics transportation, battery, and energy storage, as well as lightweight technology.

Once the survey of automakers by Ducker Worldwide had projected, “Aluminium remains the fastest growing automotive material over competing materials and is entering its most unprecedented growth phase since we’ve been tracking the shifting mix of automotive materials.”

Moreover, the production of new energy vehicles has fuelled the demand for aluminium alloy not only in China but all around the globe. In addition, this lightweight material is found to be used in other areas of electric vehicles and for the build-up of its infrastructure. Mentionable are applications like battery housings, E-drives, inverters, BIW, and charging stations.

Project manager of aluminium China Chris Zang had cited, “In the future, aluminium will be used increasingly for vehicle bodies, doors, trunks, hoods, bumpers, heat exchange, chassis, power batteries, motor parts and other parts and components.”
