Alumina volumes to surge in FY13E

NALCO commissioned a 0.52mtpa alumina refinery in Q2 FY12, raising its alumina capacity to 2.1mtpa. The company produced ~30,000-40,000 tons of alumina during Q2 FY12, which is expected to increase to 0.12million tons in H2 FY12. We expect alumina production to increase from 1.6 million tons in FY11 to 1.7 million tons in FY12 and 1.9 million tons in FY13.
On the other hand, we expect aluminum production volumes to remain flat over the next two years due to high coal costs and lucrative alumina market. As a result of this, external sale of alumina is expected to surge to 1 million tons in FY13 from 0.7 million tons in FY11.
