In Europe (incl. Russia), alumina production during July 2023 stood at 549,000 tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month hike of 24,000 tonnes or 4.57 per cent, found the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). In June 2023, the output stood at 525,000 tonnes, which was, however, down by 35,000 tonnes or 6.25 per cent from 560,000 tonnes.

On a year-on-year calculation, alumina production in Europe (incl. Russia) edged a sharp fall of 144,000 tonnes or 20.78 per cent from 693,000 tonnes, according to IAI data.
In the first seven months of 2023, alumina production in Europe (incl. Russia) totalled 3.705 million tonnes, down by 29.04 per cent from 5.221 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the last year. This drastic fall in Europe’s alumina output could be attributed to slow economic recovery and interrupted power supply, leading to higher production costs.
In H1 2023, Europe’s (incl. Russia) alumina production amounted to 3.156 million tonnes – 30.30 per cent less than 4.528 million tonnes a year earlier.
The daily average alumina production in July 2023 was recorded at 17,700 tonnes, up by 400 tonnes M-o-M from 17,500 tonnes but down by 4,700 tonnes Y-o-Y from 22,400 tonnes.
The world alumina production in July 2023 was 12.179 million tonnes – 4.32 per cent higher than 11.675 million tonnes a month ago but restrained compared to 12.198 million tonnes a year earlier.
