
Altech Chemicals Limited announced that it has raised the first steel at its high purity alumina (HPA) plant construction site in Johor, Malaysia. Stage 1 construction of the Company’s HPA plant started in February 2019. The construction work is being done by a South African company Metix, a subsidiary of Altech’s EPC contractor SMS group GmbH.

A celebration took place in the site on Friday 3 May 2019 according to the South African custom of “stand-up of iron”. The ceremony was also attended by senior Metix, SMS group and Altech management along with site based employees and sub-contractors.
The raising of first steel at Altech’s HPA plant site marks the first milestone in a series of significant developments towards the project over the last 6 months, including advanced design and engineering; obtaining of numerous permits and approvals; completion of bulk earthworks; completion of foundation piling for the maintenance workshop building and adjacent area; procurement of steel and site establishment. The appointment of various sub-contractors, establishment of site Safety, Health & Environmental and the implementation of construction quality assurance systems are other steps that were taken before the raising of first steel.
Altech Chemicals Limited is working towards becoming a leading supplier of 99.99% (4N) high purity alumina (HPA) (Al2O3). HPA is a high-value, high margin, critical ingredient required for the production of synthetic sapphire which is used in various applications like LED lights, semiconductor wafers, and sapphire glass used for wristwatch faces, optical windows and smartphone components.
