AlcoTec introduces 32-lb spools to boost productivity in high-volume aluminium MIG welding

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

All welders, pay attention here because new consumables will make your work easier and faster. Keeping in mind the heightened productivity in the high-volume Metal Inert Gas (MIG) aluminium welding application, AlcoTec, a leader in the manufacturing and supporting of aluminium welding consumables, has pioneered 32-lb spool sizes for the 4043 and 5356 wires in dimeters of 0.047 (6/64th or 1.2 mm) and 0.062 (1/16th or 1.6 mm).

The 14-inch diameter spool provides 60 per cent enhanced capacity, helping to reinforce the brand's standard 20-lb spools, abetting an extensive welding period before the need for spool changes whilst using the sledge-style feeders. With the promptness of the grooved spool hub, this spool supports conducting tangle-free feeding.

The company's 4043, 5356 and 4047 aluminium MIG welding wires showcase patented surface treatment technologies, which further support smooth feeding. Additionally, the surface treatment of the 5356 wires has been minimised to eliminate the problems associated with these wires.

Keith Packard, Director of Speciality Alloys, ESAB, stated, "Our new spools feature a grooved spool hub and are precision layer-level wound for tangle-free feeding performance. The wires are manufactured at AlcoTec's facility in Traverse City, Mich., which offers the industry's highest quality, best performing MIG wires and cut-length TIG aluminum filler materials."

He further stated that, "Our 1-lb. spools feature a new style of wire tie-off that helps prevent accidental unspooling. We now use high frequency to melt the wire into the flange of the spool. Operators can then use their pliers to just pull the wire out of the flange and cut it off to feed the wire. It is a small way to save time, but it solves a problem and shows how AlcoTec is always looking for new ways to enhance welding productivity."

AlcoTec MIG aluminium wires offer a range of package types and diameters to meet the requirements of all aluminium users, from occasional welders to high-volume robotic operations. Spool options include 1, 5, 16 and 20 lbs., while AlumaPak™ bulk drums are available in 50 and 311 lbs. sizes.
