The first aluminium smelter in the Gulf region, Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), a leader in Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), has united with a top-class sustainability consultant to develop a fully-fledged roadmap to realise its ambitious ESG goals pursuant to Bahrain’s commitment for ‘Net Zero Emissions’ by 2060.

The roadmap of Alba will lay out quick wins, short-term and long-term goals in compliance with the Company’s Mission to inspire change and encourage its status as an Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certified aluminium producer.
Lately, Alba has issued a public tender for supplying and installing solar panels for its Solar Farm with a view to diversify its energy sources and adopt clean energy in line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and its Green/Renewable Energy Targets led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The Solar Farm project will have a capacity of more than 5 MW and cover an approximate surface area of 37,000 sq. mts spread over operational areas, car parks and Alba Club.

Ali Al Baqali, the CEO, while speaking about Alba’s ESG approach said: “We can’t delegate our ESG transformation, we collectively must own it and embrace it. ESG is not a destination but a journey. What we have is agility and today I call upon each one to embrace our nation’s objectives under the leadership of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain to reach net-zero by 2060.”
“Alba also recently signed an MoU with Bahrain’s Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) to seek opportunities that will help it leverage SEA’s expertise to find sustainable energy solutions.”
“With more actionable plans in the pipeline to address Climate Change such as clean energy, environment protection, waste management, responsible sourcing, etc., Alba will be using its resources under the leadership of its Chairman of the Board Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa to play a leading role across its supply-chain to make a difference in what really matters the most – be the ESG change we want to see in the world.”
“I also take the opportunity to extend my thanks towards Alba’s Chairman of the Board Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa for inspiring us to go above and beyond and for supporting us in our pursuit to realise our ESG objectives in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.”
