
The International Aluminium Institute found primary aluminium production in Africa stood at 130,000 tonnes in April 2021, reflecting a marginal drop of 1,000 tonnes month-on-month. On a year-on-year calculation, the output in April recorded a downfall of 3,000 tonnes or 2.26 per cent from 133,000 tonnes.

In March 2021, Africa produced 131,000 tonnes of primary aluminium, bringing the total production for Q1 2021 to 385,000 tonnes. The output in March was up by 10,000 tonnes or 8.26 per cent from 121,000 tonnes in February 2021 but down by 8,000 tonnes or 5.76 per cent from 139,000 tonnes in March 2020.
Africa’s aluminium production in Q1 2021 stood down by 7,000 tonnes or 4.23 per cent from 402,000 tonnes a year ago.
In the first four months of 2021, primary aluminium production in Africa came in at 515,000 tonnes - 20,000 tonnes or 3.74 per cent less than 535,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
World primary aluminium production during January-April 2021 stood at 22.215 million tonnes, climbing 4.07 per cent year-on-year from 21.347 million tonnes.
