Bicycle die castings manufacturer AForce took to the world's largest funding platform Kickstarter to launch its new aero tubeless aluminium wheelset, AL33 wheels. Already a 'hit' AForce claims its new offering- “the fastest aluminium bicycle wheel” till date, already has 43 backers pledging more than the €18,000 funding goal, with 27 days still to go.
The Dutch company foresees a good demand for the aluminium wheelset which it has priced affordably. Its performance, the company says, matches that of a carbon fibre wheelset. Already a supplier of carbon fibre rims, AForce will be penetrating the aluminium wheels market for the first time with this product.
AL33 is a light, durable and aerodynamic wheel that is tough enough to survive the friction on pebbled pathways. The rim profile mimics the features of its carbon counterparts, with a 33mm deep toroidal shape with a 19.6mm internal width and 26.2mm width at the widest external point of the rim. Spokes nipples of the aluminium wheelset are concealed inside the rim.
“The aerodynamic benefits of the toroidal rim shape have already been proven on carbon rims including our A-force carbon rims. However, we are the first manufacturer to bring this principle to aluminium wheels without adding a weight penalty,” says the company.
AForce has used AF9X-T6 aluminium to manufacture the rims, which feature a ceramic brake track that improves braking performance. The wheelset supplies its own brake blocks designed to be used with the ceramic surface. The rim weighs 465g, which gives an edge over other heavy metallic wheelsets available in the market.
All wheels are handbuilt in Holland and come supplied with quick release skewers, brake blocks and wheel bags.
