The international organisation representing aluminium aerosol cans manufacturers (AEROBAL) has reportedly announced the winners of the industry's prestigious competition, the World Aluminium Aerosol Can Awards 2024. This year, top brands like Adidas, Grand Tongo, etc. bagged prizes under different categories.
With its rigorous standards, the globally renowned AEROBAL Award has become a benchmark for outstanding performance in the aluminium aerosol can industry, attracting participants and recognition from around the world. The awards, judged by an international panel of trade journalists from the top can and packaging magazines, including World Aerosols, recognise excellence in three categories: 'Aluminium Aerosol Cans Already on the Market,' 'Prototypes,' and 'Sustainability.'
Sustainability category
Adidas' 'Best of the Best' perfume range in aluminium cans produced by Trivium Packaging Brazil won the 'Sustainability' prize at the ‘2024 World Aluminium Aerosol Can Awards’. This deodorant project was a collaboration between Adidas and the Champions League, licensed by Coty Global, aiming to connect Adidas consumers with Europe's premier football competition. The artwork, developed in collaboration with Adidas and the global team, was replicated across all markets worldwide.
To ensure the elements stood out against the background, special inks were employed to enhance their shine and prominence. The 45x148 mm aluminium can with a flat shoulder was crafted using PivotAL™, a proprietary advanced aluminium alloy containing up to 25 per cent recycled content. This alloy is produced through an innovative liquid-phase process, eliminating the need to melt ingots as in traditional methods. The alloy production utilised renewable energy, resulting in lower carbon emissions. Furthermore, the internal varnish was reduced by nearly 50 per cent, contributing to a smaller greenhouse gas footprint for the packaging.
Aluminium aerosol cans already on the market
The winners under this category include Trivium Packaging USA and the Turkish manufacturer Aryum.
J.Company is Pakistan's premier fashion and fragrance brand, created by J. Junaid Jamshed Pvt Ltd in honour of the late musician and fashion designer of the same name. In search of a cutting-edge aluminium can solution for its new non-gas perfume line, the company chose Aryum's advanced can technology: '360° Embossed Shaping with Oriented Printing'. As a result, the 'J.' brand is prominently featured with a distinctive square embossed design. AEROBAL lauded the results, calling the design concept remarkable. The successful approach provides each fragrance in the range with a unique and impressive appearance.
The second winner in this category was Trivium Packaging USA, which crafted a 50x165 mm aluminium aerosol can for Grand Tongo of Newport Beach, California. Grand Tongo's innovative approach to insect repellent has set a new standard in the industry, delivering an effective and eco-friendly product. The aluminium aerosol can with a flat shoulder exemplifies technical innovation, showcasing the brand's dedication to both excellence and sustainability.
The can's design reflects extensive research and development, prioritising user-friendliness and environmental impact. A standout feature is using aluminium, which aligns with Grand Tongo's commitment to sustainability. Technically, the can incorporates a bag-on-valve system that delivers a fine mist spray, ensuring the repellent is applied effectively and efficiently. This system minimises waste and maintains consistent application, significantly enhancing the user experience.
