EDITED BY : 3MINS READ

A seminar, jointly organised by BetterCans, LLC and Ohio State University, is gaining attention in the metal packaging space. Designed for canmakers, non-canmakers, and brand owners, the event will feature key voices from the canmaking and beverage industries. With the theme "A Young Packaging for Future Generations," the focus will be on two-piece aluminium cans for beverages.

{alcircleadd}

This two-day seminar provides a comprehensive overview of the key processes and materials used in aluminium canmaking and beverage packaging.

Participants will learn how two-piece aluminium cans are manufactured and explore the regulations governing materials that come into contact with ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages.

The seminar will follow the full lifecycle of a beverage can, from aluminium coil to the finished product. Key topics include can forming, filling, double seaming, and thermal treatments like pasteurisation and sterilisation, all essential for beverage safety and shelf life.

Sessions will be led by industry experts from leading organisations such as BetterCans, Arconic, Stolle Machinery, Henkel, INX International, PPG, Pneumatic Scale Angelus, OneVision, JBT Marel, and Ohio State University.

Event venue & date

The collaborative event, hosted by The Ohio State University's Department of Food Science and Technology, will take place from Wednesday, August 13, to Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Day 1 of the event

The first day of the seminar will feature a comprehensive line-up of technical sessions. It will begin with an introduction to canmaking presented by BetterCans, followed by a detailed discussion on aluminium alloys for canmaking by Arconic Corporation. Stolle Machinery Company will deliver two sessions focusing on the aluminium cup forming process.

At the same time, Henkel Corporation will share insights on both lubricants used in canmaking and the acid cleaning process. The day will be concluded with an important session on food contact material regulations, presented by Professor Melvin A. Pascall.

Day 2 of the event

The following day of the canmaking seminar will continue with valuable industry-focused discussions. BetterCans will open the day with an overview of the current state of the canmaking industry, followed by a session from INX International Ink Co. on perfecting colour and ink across a global network. PPG Packaging Coatings will then present about the packaging coatings used in canmaking.

Pneumatic Scale Angelus will share insights into the filling process for ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages. OneVision Corporation will further lead the session on double-seam operation and inspection, followed by JBT Marel's presentation on in-container sterilisation for beverages. The day will be concluded with Professor Melvin A. Pascall's session on beverage and packaging interactions.

Who can benefit the most from the event?

The event shall empower professionals in the beverage packaging industry. Some of the esteemed professionals who should attend this event are:

  • Canmakers who are at present utilising two-piece aluminium cans for beverage
  • Interested individuals willing to know more about the aluminium cans and RTD beverages
  • Production and quality assurance managers, process engineers, supervisors, technicians, and employees working on the manufacturing line
  • Customer service & technical representatives, sales & marketing professionals and metallurgists in the aluminium beverage can sheet and canmaking sectors
