The aluminium industry is undergoing a data-driven transformation, with recycling now delivering up to 95 per cent energy savings, achieving a 75 per cent global can recycling rate, and processing nearly 42 million tonnes of scrap annually. These figures are not just environmental milestones—they are reshaping supply chains, pricing, and national strategies as primary aluminium faces structural deficits and carbon constraints. Where 1.5 billion tonnes of aluminium went Of the roughly 1.5 billion tonnes of aluminium produced since 1888, about 1.1 billion tonnes (around three-quarters) remained in productive use in the 2019 estimate. Within that total, approximately 750 million tonnes were still in their first use, while about 370 million tonnes had been recycled and reused. In other words,...
A rolling-mill drive can trip even when its encoder passes a bench test. A refinery instrument can report erratic readings with no obvious process upset. Engineers may suspect the devices first, but the installed cables, mating interfaces and routing deserve the same scrutiny. Intermittent faults sometimes disappear the moment an assembly is touched. That uncertainty has an economic cost: investigation consumes maintenance time, and a missed control signal may delay equipment availability. This article concerns sensor, instrumentation, encoder, fieldbus and appropriately rated low-power auxiliary interfaces, typically carrying signals or modest loads—not power feeders. Main motor circuits, plant distribution, rectifier outputs and potline busbars are outside its scope. No connector type...

Alutrade achieved 99 per cent pure aluminium for use in secondary aluminium production thanks to the X-TRACT™, TOMRA's most sophisticated x-ray metals sorting equipment. The UK-based aluminium recycling company became the first firm to benefit from X-TRACT, the advanced new sensor-based sorting technology from TOMRA. The X-TRACT™ was installed in March 2021 at Alutrade's Oldbury recycling facility in Birmingham, which handles 42,000 tonnes of garbage annually. Remelts located all over the world are among Alutrade's clients. They require the highest purity grade of aluminium product for their remelting process since any heavy metal presence impacts the melt parameters. The infeed material is first pre-shredded into smaller pieces of around one to two metres in length at Alutrade's Oldbury...
