The third quarter brought a clear improvement in global alumina production. It did not, however, bring production back to the level recorded a year earlier. Global alumina output has reached 114.625 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2026, down 330,000 tonnes or 0.29% (114.955 million tonnes in 2025) year-on-year. China's estimated production increased, but declines across most other reporting regions erased that gain. The quarterly sequence reveals how the production gap has developed. In the July to September 2026 quarter, alumina output reached 39.396 million tonnes, an increase of 5.54% over the preceding quarter. Yet the same quarter in 2025 had delivered 39.675 million tonnes. The latest production total was therefore 279,000 tonnes lower Y-o-Y. The first quarter of 2026...
Century Aluminum Company reported stronger financial results for the third quarter of 2026, as the restart of Line 2 at its Grundartangi facility in Iceland helped increase aluminium shipments, net sales and profitability. The most significant reason for the rapid growth of aluminium cans in the market is due to their extraordinary features of being strong, light in weight, highly resistant to corrosion, giving excellent barriers against air, light, & moisture and super-efficient to ship and store. Furthermore, beverage cans made of aluminium are infinitely recyclable. Aluminium cans chill quickly, provide a superior metal canvas for 360-degree labelling and perhaps most importantly preserve flavour and freshness. The Balkan nation, Bulgaria has experienced a significant transformation over the past three decades, as it has progressed from a highly centralized, planned economy to an open, market-based, upper-middle-income economy securely anchored in the European Union (EU). As per the census of 2022, the...

Urban mining is the process of removing non-ferrous metals, like aluminium, copper, lead, and zinc, from electronic trash and other wastes that are primarily produced in urban areas. To make deep-seated minerals such as zinc, lead, and copper more accessible, the minerals and metals industry is urging the government to create a new urban mining policy and add a specific clause to the current regulations. “We have to introduce in India a concept called urban mining. We sell around 4 million tonne of aluminium. Out of this, more than 60% is recycled aluminium. In fact, most of the big companies in the world today, including us, are investing heavily into recycling, which is the whole concept of urban mining,” said Satish Pai, managing director of Hindalco. The government should promote...

The Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMNAVSURFPAC) has joined hands in collaboration with the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Monterey, California, to mount a metal Additive Manufacturing machine on the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD-2). The ship, after the successful installation will become the first to flaunt a metal AM machine on board, estimating its feasibility in the ocean. The Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) officer aboard USS Essex, Lt. Cmdr. Nicolas Batista, exemplified that this in-house metal AM machine would be one of the fastest of its kind aimed at additively manufacturing aluminium products. A range of ship-borne aluminium items are scheduled to be manufactured on board while sailing, like, housings, bleed air...

The global metal and mining giant, Rio Tinto has announced that the group has decided in investing US$188 million (CA$240 million) to augment the production capacity for low-carbon, high-value aluminium billets at its Alma smelter in Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec by 202,000 tonnes. The current casting centre at Rio Tinto's Alma facility will be expanded to accommodate new state-of-the-art equipment, counting a casting pit and furnaces, granting a larger portion of the aluminium produced to be recast to higher value billets. The Rajshahi district in Bangladesh is facing a gas inflow interruption (a cheaper option than fuel oil) and resulting in a surge in oil prices which might lead to the shutdown of various aluminium utensils industries in Bogura’s Talora port region. The regional traders explained that the cost of furnace oil is so elevated that 10 out of 11 factories have been forced into an abrupt closure during the previous four years. Yet the very little amount of aluminium utensils are still being formed in Talora but with the unavailability of a proper gas connection, the only running unit might also be closed, according to the locals. Bogura town has a gas connection but it is 20km away from this port. Some of the units are manufacturing utensils with gas as an energy source which is cutting down...

On Tuesday, July 12, a major accident was reported at Weston Aluminium on Mitchell Avenue. The molten aluminium that had spilt at the Kuri Kuri based smelter was, however, brought under control by the firefighters. The firefighters arrived at the spot at around 11.30 pm, where they discovered a substantial pour of molten aluminium. “There was a spill of molten aluminium which was really concerning for firefighters because molten aluminium is very, very hot. Fortunately it was contained. A significant area of concern was the actual heat of the aluminium and if we applied water that turning to steam straight away and creating bigger problems. Firefights did cool and contain the area around with advice from our hazardous materials experts and the on-site technicians as well," said NSW...

The use of aluminium plates, sheets and bars, also known as aluminium flat-rolled products, is widespread. They are used in the food and beverage sector for packaging as well as in cookware and appliances. The building and housing industries can employ sheets of this metal for siding, roofing, gutters, and other purposes. The United States imported 24,400 tonnes of aluminium flat-rolled products from Oman in the first quarter of 2022 (1Q2022), which surged by 4,000 tonnes or 19.60 per cent Y-o-Y from 20,400 tonnes in 1Q2021. Belvac Production Machinery, a global pioneer in the design and manufacture of aluminium can equipment, was declared clear by a jury in Virginia. The jury found that competitor Crown Packaging's patents on a machine that makes aluminium beverage cans were not violated by container manufacturer Belvac Production Machinery. After a nine-day trial, the jury found that Crown Packaging Technology Inc. had not provided sufficient evidence to support its claims that Belvac Production Machinery Inc. had violated three patents related to a machine used to produce beverage cans. The jury further concluded that Belvac had not established that the eight stated claims were barred by the on-sale provision. Crown Packaging and a division of CarnaudMetalbox Engineering Ltd. filed a lawsuit in July 2018...
