On Thursday, September 21, A00 aluminium ingot inventories in China settled at 522,000 tonnes, registering a week-on-week growth of 3,000 tonnes from 519,000 tonnes, found the Shanghai Metals Market data. However, from Monday, September 18, aluminium ingot inventories dwindled by 7,000 tonnes from 229,000 tonnes. The week-on-week growth, primarily contributed by Shanghai and Wuxi could be attributed to no significant demand from downstream pre-holidaying stockpiling and limited cargo pickup from warehouses in South & East China. To know the status of primary aluminium inventories across China as of September 21, refer to the chart below: In Shanghai, primary aluminium inventories on September 21 witnessed a hike of 10,000 tonnes W-o-W to stand at 58,000 tonnes, followed by the rise of...

In August, China's manganese ore imports slightly regained their pace after a steady downfall over the last three months. The General Administration of Customs (GACC) reported that the total volume increased by 1.4 per cent on a month-on-month scale to 2.52 million tonnes, a rise of 35,290 tonnes. This increase was due to the stable demand from local manganese alloy smelters, who continued to keep their production high. Manganese has a very important usage in the aluminium alloying industry, as the metal strengthens the bond of any given compound, perfecting the components made out of standardised alloys. Aluminium alone is so easily bendable that for heavy-duty applications it is imperative to use alloying elements, and that is where manganese shines. Total silicomanganese (SiMn) output...

Purina encourages pet owners to recycle as part of its new #PurinaRecyclesChallenge effort. The initiative aims to tackle the insufficient recycling of aluminium and steel pet food cans despite their inherent recyclability. Based on data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the recycling rate is a mere 32 per cent. Pet food cans possess the quality of being entirely recyclable, although the active participation of customers is necessary to guarantee their proper disposal in designated recycling receptacles. The significance of recycling pet food cans lies in the substantial reduction of energy consumption when using recycled aluminium cans to produce new aluminium cans, which amounts to a 95 per cent decrease compared to the energy required for manufacturing cans from primary...

According to Oleg Deripaska, a prominent Russian oligarch, Russia has managed to withstand Western sanctions imposed in response to its invasion of Ukraine. Despite expecting the country to struggle financially due to the war, Deripaska expressed surprise at Russia's resilience. He attributed this to the nation's ability to forge new trade connections with the global south and increase investment in domestic production. These measures allowed Moscow to overcome the efforts to isolate its economy and continue to thrive. The private sector turned out to be stronger than ever just some months back, the Russian oligarch claims in astonishment. Deripaska exclaimed: "I was surprised that private business would be so flexible. I was more or less sure that up to 30 per cent of the economy would...

China’s aluminium semis exports in August 2023 recorded a drop of 9 per cent month-on-month to reach 439,500 tonnes, according to China customs data. On a year-on-year basis, the exports dwindled by 14.6 per cent. The declining trend also reflected in China’s total aluminium semis exports in the first seven months of 2023. According to customs data, the aggregated export volume during January-August stood at 3.52 million tonnes, down by 19 per cent from a year earlier. The drop in China’s aluminium semis exports was mainly due to weak shipments of aluminium plate/sheet, strip, and foil. Exports of aluminium bars and rods remained relatively steady year-on-year. The recent tariff rise by Mexico and the interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve were primarily the two factors that impacted...
