Ford premieres the bigger, lighter and more loaded 2018 Ford Expedition at a private event in Dallas on February 7 Tuesday. The SUV will have a public unveiling during the Chicago Auto Show later this week.

The all-new 2018 Ford Expedition is characterized by its high-strength aluminium-alloy body and redesigned steel frame that shave up to 300 pounds of weight from the full-size SUV’s weight. Though the weight reduction is conditioned by the trim level, Ford says it maintains its off-road capability.
With the aluminium-body SUV that is to be commercially available from fall this year, Ford has successfully implemented aluminium construction for the second time after the 2015 F-150. The Expedition is based on the same F-Series platform that turned out to be a rugged best seller despite the initial doubts by experts.
The eight-seat family SUV is four inches longer and an inch wider and loaded with more features than the current full-size SUV. Interior changes were designed with an objective of making the cabin more spacious and comfortable for second- and third-row passengers, as said by Todd Hoevener, chief program engineer at Ford. Ford has introduced sliding second-row seats to allow passengers in the second and third rows more legroom and movement comfort.

The SUV is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine and comes with auto start-stop technology and a 10-speed automatic transmission present in F-Series trucks.
The new Expedition will be available in three trim levels: XLT, Limited and Platinum series. Ford will reveal the exact vehicle weight before the commercial launch. The SUV is built at Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, where F-Series trucks are manufactured.
