Giorgio Di Betta, the Commercial Director of Eural Gnutti’s Bars Division, leads the company’s global alloy strategy with deep expertise in extrusion standards and industry governance. Serving key roles across European Aluminium committees, he drives standardisation, quality excellence and the advancement of high-performance, lead-free alloys.
In an interview for “End-user Revolution: ALuminium's Impact on Modern Living” e-Magazine, Betta shared insights on EURAL’s sustainable production of Alloy 6026LF, its high recycled content, superior mechanical performance, and rising adoption across automotive, packaging, and electronics sectors. It highlights how the alloy supports circular economy goals while offering manufacturers stronger, machinable, low-carbon alternatives.
AL Circle: EURAL has been vocal about its commitment to sustainability. How is the company integrating circular economy principles, such as recycling and low-carbon inputs, into the production of 6026LF? And how does this approach help end user sectors like automotive and packaging meet their environmental targets?
Giorgio Di Betta: All of Eural’s latest LEAD FREE free-cutting alloys (2033, 6026LF and 2077) have been intentionally developed to allow for the greatest possible use of recycled aluminium. Thanks to modern production facilities, EURAL was able to achieve peaks of over 90% recycled aluminium in 6026LF during 2023.
Aluminium is an incredible metal, infinitely recyclable without ever losing its original characteristics. The intentional use of recycled aluminium allows for emissions savings of up to 7 times compared to the option of producing from primary aluminium.
AL Circle: How has demand for Alloy 6026LF evolved so far, and what growth trajectory do you anticipate by the end of 2025?
Giorgio Di Betta: Actually, 6026LF is already an established product, being the natural successor to the previous 6026. Its great success was quickly achieved thanks to its ease of use by those who were already familiar with it. Today, Eural produces thousands of tonnes of 6026LF every year.
AL Circle: What are EURAL’s plans for expanding the global supply and reach of Alloy 6026LF, particularly among automakers, electronics producers, and packaging manufacturers?
Giorgio Di Betta: We have a team of expert technicians who can support our customers wherever they are. We regularly visit their production departments and actively cooperate with them to replace other aluminium alloys or other metals and facilitate the transition to EURAL LEAD FREE’s highly machinable alloys.
