Detail

SIMVIC Group is a global leader in advanced metal recycling technologies, specialising in customised aluminium recycling solutions. Through AI, LIBS and smart factory automation, the company enhances recovery efficiency, purity and traceability across diverse aluminium scrap streams.

In an interview for “ALUEXPO 2025 & Beyond” SIMVIC highlights its commitment to circular aluminium recycling, showcasing its AI-driven sorting, digital twin systems and modular upgrades that deliver up to 99.5% purity and over 95% recovery rates. The discussion also explores SIMVIC’s strategic focus on global partnerships and zero-carbon recycling plants to shape a sustainable aluminium future.

AL Circle: The recycled aluminium supply chain is often constrained by feedstock variability. How do SIMVIC’s sorting and separation technologies address the challenge of mixed scrap quality, and what efficiency gains have you observed in terms of recovery rates or reduced contamination levels?

SIMVIC: To achieve both upcycling and maximum recovery rates, we have integrated advanced AI and optoelectronic sorting technologies into our recycling systems. We deliver tailored solutions based on scrap source and downstream applications:

For raw materials primarily composed of die-cast aluminium (cast aluminium), our system utilises intelligent crushing to optimise particle size distribution, minimise dust generation, and enhance metal liberation. This is followed by a combination of magnetic separation, eddy current, and X-ray sorting to effectively remove impurities such as iron, zinc, lead, and magnesium. The output is high-purity die-cast aluminium alloy ingot material with up to 99.5% purity, suitable for high-end applications.

We also provide specialised crushing and sorting solutions for 6XXX series extrusion scrap and 3XXX series used beverage cans (UBC). By optimising crushing pathways and employing multistage sorting—including magnetic separation, air classification, eddy current, and X-ray/optoelectronic technologies—we achieve high-purity aluminium recovery with minimal material loss. The overall recovery rate exceeds 95%, truly transforming waste into valuable material.

Furthermore, our automated systems significantly reduce reliance on manual labour. The number of operators required per shift can be reduced from 20–30 to just 3–6.

SIMVIC remains at the forefront of global innovation, continuously incorporating advanced technologies such as XRF, LIBS, and AI-driven sorting to enhance detection accuracy and separation efficiency. We are committed to providing global customers with stable, efficient, and reliable recycling solutions for the aluminium industry.

AL Circle: As aluminium recycling becomes more circular, traceability and digitalisation are gaining traction. How is SIMVIC embedding automation, AI, or data analytics into its recycling lines to enable smarter decisionmaking and higher recovery yields?

SIMVIC: Our Smart Factory Solution integrates four technological pillars:

  • Digital Twin System: Establishes a virtual production line to optimise equipment operating parameters in real time.
  • AI-Based Quality Prediction: Utilises machine learning algorithms to forecast sorting outcomes and automatically adjust process parameters.
  • Blockchain Traceability: Records material origins, processing history, and quality data to provide full lifecycle traceability.
  • IoT Platform: Collects operational parameters such as crusher torque and optical sorter spectral data, and employs cloud analytics to optimise equipment coordination efficiency.

To date, this integrated approach has helped our customers achieve a 12% increase in recovery rate and reduce quality-related disputes by 90%.
