US-Canada tariff tensions drive 84% rise in aluminum prices for Texas fabricator
A Texas metal fabricator says the cost of aluminum has risen sharply as trade tensions between the US and Canada add pressure to cross-border supply chains. Lance Thrailkill, CEO of All Metals Fabricating in Allen, said the company has seen aluminum prices increase by 84% since March last year, with much of its aluminum sourced from Canada. The higher material costs are affecting both the company’s margins and what its customers pay. Thrailkill mentioned, “Fortunately, we’re able to pass a lot of that on to our customer base, but oftentimes also we do get squeezed in terms of margin, so you might be able to maintain the same profit amount, but your margin goes down, so that is not ideal.” Thrailkill noted that the company has had to adjust how it manages its aluminum inventory as prices...

The conclusion of negotiations on the EU–India Free Trade Agreement creates a new context for Indian manufacturers considering the European market, but future opportunities will increasingly depend on regulatory preparedness as well as commercial competitiveness. India proposes 5-year extension of aluminium foil duties with rates up to $977/t
India may continue imposing anti-dumping duties on aluminium foil from China, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia for another five years, following a recommendation from the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR). The proposed duties on aluminium foil of 80 microns and below range from USD 93 to USD 977 per tonne, depending on the country and exporter. The final decision on the recommendation will be taken by the Finance Ministry. The DGTR said extending the duties was necessary after reviewing submissions from interested parties as part of a sunset review investigation. Over the past few years, the employment story of US aluminum industry has been entering chapters from the downstream segment. According to the Aluminum Association, almost 98% of all US aluminum jobs are now concentrated in mid- and downstream processing and recycling, even as employment in primary aluminum has fallen sharply. Vedanta Aluminium has become India’s second-largest exporter of goods from a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), recording exports of around USD 3.5 billion in FY26, according to the company.
