China’s alumina price hikes by RMB50/t, reflecting a Y-o-Y surge of 81%; A00 aluminium ingot price loses RMB220/t

The SMM alumina price has experienced a challenging momentum since the beginning of September. The average alumina spot price has shown unprecedented growth, reflecting a Y-o-Y spike of RMB 2,435 per tonne or 81 per cent from RMB 3006 per tonne recorded on November 13, 2023.

Region-wise price analysis

As of today, the price has hiked to RMB 5,441 per tonne after growing by RMB 50 per tonne. The alumina prices have grown in all the provinces, with the highest in Lianyungang and Bayuquan, where it has surged by RMB 100 per tonne to reach RMB 5,700 per tonne. On the same day, the alumina prices in Shanxi and Henan have added RMB 50 per tonne to clock at RMB 5,550 per tonne and RMB 5,450 per tonne. The prices in Shandong, Guizhou and Guangxi have ascended by RMB 50 per tonne to halt at RMB 5,400 per tonne.

A00 aluminium ingot

However, on the other hand, the domestic price of A00 aluminium ingot has dropped by RMB 220 per tonne to settle at RMB 21,490 per tonne, with the spot contract price expected to be traded at a premium price of RMB 40 to RMB 80 per tonne. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 21,470 per tonne and RMB 21,510 per tonne.

The aluminium ingot prices have shown a downfall in all the regions except in Linyi, where it has gained RMB 240 per tonne to clock at RMB 21,660 per tonne. Gongyi and Wuxi's prices have lost RMB 240 per tonne and RMB 230 per tonne to peg at RMB 21,400 per tonne and RMB 21,470 per tonne. In Hangzhou and Foshan, the prices have fallen by RMB 220 per tonne and RMB 210 per tonne, reaching RMB 21,330 per tonne and RMB 21,470 per tonne. As per the SMM data, the prices in Shenyang and Chongqing have declined to RMB 21,410 per tonne and RMB 21,440 per tonne, following a fall of RMB 200 per tonne and RMB 190 per tonne. In Tianjin, the A00 aluminium ingot price decreased by RMB 90 per tonne to a halt at RMB 21,520 per tonne.

Other prices

The low carbon aluminium price has slumped by RMB 214 per tonne to clock at RMB 22,422 per tonne. As per the SMM data, the price of high-purity aluminium (99.99%) price and high-purity aluminium (99.996%) price have dived down by RMB 200 per tonne to clock at RMB 28,500 per tonne and RMB 29,500 per tonne.

The aluminium alloy (A356) price has slipped by RMB 200 per tonne to reach RMB 21,950 per tonne, with the average prices expected to range between RMB 21,800 per tonne and RMB 21,100 per tonne. On the same day, for both (ADC12) and (A380) the prices have dipped by RMB 100 per tonne to settle at RMB 21,200 per tonne and RMB 22,200 per tonne. For (ADC12) the average prices are expected to stand between RMB 21,100 per tonne and RMB 21,300 per tonne. For (A380) the average prices may range between RMB 22,100 per tonne and RMB 22,300 per tonne.
