
Almatis, a global leader in speciality alumina products and solutions, has broken ground on its new Huangdao Calcined Alumina Plant in the Qingdao Economic Development Zone, China. With this new plant, Almatis will double its production capacity in the region and aims to meet the rising demand for raw materials in several critical industries, especially technical ceramics, electronic components, and electric vehicles.

OYAK General Manager Murat Yacintas stated that since joining the OYAK Group in 2015, Almatis has stood out with its strategic investments aimed at increasing its influence in global markets. "The new investment in the Qingdao Economic Development Zone represents a strategic step to strengthen the company's global leadership in alumina products," he said.
The foundation of the new facility, which will be built on a 5,500 square meter area in the Qingdao Economic Development Zone, was laid with a ceremony. Almatis. which began operations in China in 1998. will launch its fourth facility in the country with this investment, further strengthening its production network. With a strong market presence in China, Almatis aims to meet the rapidly growing demand for raw materials in many critical industries - from technical ceramics to semiconductors and electric vehicles - through the new Calcined Alumina Plant in Huangdao.
Reinforcing Global Leadership
OYAK General Manager Murat Yacintas emphasised that since Almatis became part of OYAK in 2075. it has drawn attention with strategic investments focused on increasing its global market presence. "This new investment in the Qingdao Economic Development Zone is a strategic move to reinforce the company's global leadership in the field of specialty alumina solutions. The high-tech Huangdao Calcined Alumina Plant, to be built in the same area as the current calcined alumina facility, will double Almatis' production capacity in the country and expand its product portfolio," he said.
He noted that Almatis is a key player in the speciality alumina products and solutions market in China, one of the world's largest economies, and added that the company's target growth markets in China include electric vehicles, consumer electronics, semiconductors, metallised cylinders, ceramic substrates, and catalytic substrates. He continued: "As the Chinese economy continues to grow steadily, international investors are also seizing long-term opportunities in this dynamic market. Meeting Rising Raw Material Demand
Almatis CEO Anil Sonmez pointed out the rapid growth of the technical ceramics, chip, and electric vehicle industries across the Asia region, particularly in China, and highlighted the need for a new calcination line and advanced grinding technologies to meet the increasing demand for raw materials in these sectors. "With the new high-tech grinding mill integrated into the calcination line, Almatis aims to enhance its capabilities in this field. In addition, we will be able to control production processes more precisely in our new facility, allowing us to expand our product range," he said.
Consistency in Quality and Efficiency
Sonmez stated that the Huangdao Calcined Alumina Plant will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology to meet customer expectations and continued: "The process technology that has been successfully implemented in other parts of our Huangdao plant will also be used in our new facility. In this way, we will ensure reliability in terms of quality and efficiency. Furthermore, by combining calcination and ball mill lines, we will gain significant advantages in efficiency."
