Hindalco’s digital alumina tender tests a new route to price discovery
With only 10 per cent of globally traded alumina changing hands on the spot market, Hindalco is moving its tenders online in an effort to strengthen the evidence behind benchmark prices. For a commodity market where a relatively small number of transactions can influence prices across a much larger pool of long-term contracts, the quality of the underlying data matters. That is the challenge facing alumina, and Hindalco is now testing whether digital trading infrastructure can help address it. Aluminium du Maroc’s revenue retreats, but profit refuses to follow with a 31% Y-o-Y increase in H1 2026
Aluminium du Maroc reported a 31 per cent year-over-year increase in H1 2026 net income to MAD 41.0 million (USD 4.11 million), even as consolidated revenue declined to MAD 603.7 million (USD 60.55 million) from MAD 650.1 million (USD 65.21 million). The Moroccan aluminium producer’s results point to a stronger profitability performance despite weaker top-line activity. Net income rose from MAD 31.3 million (USD 3.14 million) in H1 2025, while operating income also increased by 23 per cent to MAD 77.2 million (USD 7.74 million), according to AlphaMena. The low-carbon aluminum market has stepped into a more competitive phase as producers invest in cleaner smelting technologies, renewable power and new downstream applications. Rio Tinto’s $1.5 billion AP60 smelter expansion in Quebec is the latest major development, adding around 160,000 metric tons per annum (MPTA) of primary aluminum capacity when fully operational by the end of 2026. The project will lift total AP60 production at Complexe Arvida to about 220,000 MPTA while supplying lower-carbon aluminum to transportation, construction, electrical and consumer-goods customers. Golkonda Aluminium sales jump to $144.48m as Q2 swings to loss
Golkonda Aluminium Extrusions Limited saw its reported sales surge to INR 13.99 billion (USD 144.48 million) in the second quarter ended September 30, 2026, from INR 1.86 million (USD 19,208.92) a year earlier. LME aluminium price pulls back rapidly before the holiday, then recovers from lows: Why did it fall below USD 3,150 per tonne?
Since late September, LME aluminium prices ended their previous trend of fluctuating at highs and underwent a notable pullback around China’s National Day holiday. The LME spot aluminium settlement price fell from USD 3,248.5 per tonne on September 28 to USD 3,204 per tonne on September 30, with the decline accelerating further in October. It dropped USD 84 per tonne in a single day on October 1 to USD 3,120 per tonne, and fell further to USD 3,109.5 per tonne on October 2. RevoCast’s newly commissioned aluminum billet facility in British Columbia is set to supply more low-carbon extrusion material to North American manufacturers through a new agreement with Rio Tinto. The Langley plant, which began operations in August 2026, can produce more than 80,000 metric tons of 6xxx-series aluminum billet annually. Under the agreement, Rio Tinto will exclusively market the billet, which combines low-carbon primary aluminum produced using hydropower at Rio Tinto’s Kitimat operations with recycled aluminum processed by RevoCast.
