Yunnan Aluminium plans to buy stakes in SLACO and develop refinery

Once the deal is secured, YALICO plans to develop a 1 million-tpy alumina refinery along with a 3 million-tpy bauxite mine across the 147.86 square kilometers land in the Bolaven plateau in southern Laos.
SLACO already holds the mining license for the bauxite resource in Laos’ southern Champasak Province where prospecting was conducted in two stages revealing that nearly 140 million tonnes of gibbsite quality bauxite was available in this piece of land with a 39.13% average grade found in the first stage and 41.31% grade found in the second stage. The Al-Si ration was found to be 8.47 in stage one and 9.51 in stage two.
The bauxite in the Bolaven plateau was found to be of a better quality than found in other parts of China which means the cost of mining and refining would be considerably lower in this project.
