World primary aluminium production in October’22 records monthly rise of 3% to 5.85 Mt, with daily output drop by 0.16%

World primary aluminium production in October 2022 totalled 5.850 million tonnes, which reflected an increase of 3.19 per cent month-on-month, found the International Aluminium Institute data. In September, world primary aluminium output stood at 5.669 million tonnes, down by 3.93 per cent from 5.901 million tonnes in August. That demonstrated the monthly rise in October output followed a decline in the previous month.

On a year-on-year calculation, world primary aluminium production in October edged a 3.12 per cent increase than 5.673 million tonnes, according to IAI.

In the first ten months of 2022, world primary aluminium production amounted to 56.914 million tonnes, up by 1.33 per cent from 56.165 million tonnes a year ago.

In October 2022, world daily average primary aluminium production was 188,700 tonnes, however, down by 0.16 per cent from 189,000 tonnes in September 2022, and 3.11 per cent higher than 183,000 tonnes in October 2021.

China produced 3.475 million tonnes of primary aluminium in October 2022 – 3.33 per cent more than 3.363 million tonnes a month earlier and 6.27 per cent higher than 3.270 million tonnes in October 2021. From January to October, China churned out 33.573 million tonnes of primary aluminum versus 32.639 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the Gulf region, primary aluminium production in October 2022 stood at 508,000 tonnes, reflecting a rise of 1.40 per cent or 7,000 tonnes from 501,000 tonnes. On a year-on-year basis, Gulf’s primary aluminium output in October recorded a dip of 2,000 tonnes from 510,000 tonnes. During January-October 2022, Gulf churned out 5.051 million tonnes of primary aluminium in total compared to 4.885 million tonnes during the same period last year.

In Asia (ex-China), primary aluminium production in October 2022 was 394,000 tonnes , up by 14,000 tonnes or 3.68 per cent M-o-M from 380,000 tonnes, and 7,000 tonnes or 1.81per cent higher Y-o-Y than 387,000 tonnes.
