
According to the latest data released by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), world primary aluminium production in November 2020 stood at 5.471 million tonnes, recording a downfall of 3.03 per cent month-on-month from 5.642 million tonnes. This decline comes after an intermittent hike of 4.46 per cent in October from 5.401 million tonnes in September 2020.
However, on a year-on-year comparison, global primary aluminium output in November 2020 stood higher by 4.11 per cent from 5.255 million tonnes, showed the IAI data.

In 11 months during January-November 2020, world primary aluminium production totalled 59.707 million tonnes, up by 2.56 per cent from 58.218 million tonnes during the same period last year.
China, being the world's leading primary aluminium producer, churned out around 3.174 million tonnes in November 2020, 3.23 per cent lower than 3.280 million tonnes in the previous month but higher by 7.67 per cent than 2.948 million tonnes a year ago. In the entire 11 months of 2020, China produced 34.150 million tonnes (approx.).
In the Middle East, primary aluminium production came in at 478,000 tonnes in November 2020, recording a decrease of 12,000 tonnes or 2.45 per cent from 490,000 tonnes in October 2020. On a year-on-year basis, the production stood lower as well by 1.04 per cent from 483,000 tonnes. Total primary aluminium production in the Middle East during January-November 2020 amounted to 5.331 million tonnes.
In Asia (ex-China), primary aluminium production was 344,000 tonnes in November 2020 compared with 350,000 tonnes in October. Thus, on a month-on-month, production fell by 6,000 tonnes or 1.71 per cent in November. On a year-on-year, Asia’s primary aluminium production in November 2020 declined 3.64 per cent from 357,000 tonnes. Total production in 11 months stood at 3.775 million tonnes.
