
World alumina production in November 2020 stood at 11.385 million tonnes, representing a month-on-month downfall of 1.10 per cent, according to the data revealed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). In October, world alumina output was 11.511 million tonnes, up by 6.04 per cent from 10.855 million tonnes in September 2020. Total production in those three months (September-November) came in at 33.751 million tonnes, 2.78 per cent higher than 32.838 million tonnes during the same period last year.

On a year-on-year basis, world alumina production in November stood up by 5.67 per cent from 10.774 million tonnes.
Total alumina production in the first eleven months of the year (January-November) amounted to 121.912 million tonnes, 1.05 per cent higher year-on-year than 120.640 million tonnes.
In China, the world’s largest alumina producer, output in November 2020 stood at an estimated amount of 6.039 million tonnes, down by 3.22 per cent month-on-month from 6.240 million tonnes but up 6.47 per cent year-on-year from 5.672 million tonnes. During January-November 2020, China’s alumina production totalled 64.132 million tonnes, 1.89 per cent less than 65.366 million tonnes during the same period last year.
In the Oceania region, alumina production in November 2020 pegged at 1.808 million tonnes compared with 1.810 million tonnes a month ago. Hence, the output in the Oceania region in November 2020 remained flat month-on-month, found the IAI data. On a year-on-year calculation, the production in November stood up by 5.92 per cent from 1.707 million tonnes.
During January-November, total alumina production in the Oceania region amounted to 19.324 million tonnes, up by 3.46 per cent from 18.677 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
In Africa & Asia (ex-China), alumina production in November stood at 1.047 million tonnes, up by 4.08 per cent from 1.006 million tonnes in October 2020 and by 23.61 per cent from 847,000 tonnes in November 2019. In the first eleven months of the year, alumina output in Africa & Asia (ex-China) came in at 11.298 million tonnes, growing by 19.99 per cent year-on-year from 9.416 million tonnes.
