The current International Aluminium Institute data showed the world alumina production in November 2023 fell month-on-month by 1.90 per cent to 11.858 million tonnes, following an increase in October output.

According to IAI, world alumina production in October was 12.088 million tonnes, up by 0.99 per cent from 11.970 million tonnes a month earlier.
Throughout the year till November, world alumina production projected fluctuations, totalling 129.9 million tonnes compared to 130.35 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year. That reflected a marginal dip of 0.35 per cent in the world’s alumina production from January to November 2023.
On the other hand, despite the fall in monthly production in November 2023, the world’s daily average output in the said month was 1.38 per cent higher at 395,300 tonnes versus 389,900 tonnes in October.
On a year-on-year calculation, the world’s both daily and monthly production in November edged an increase of 2.76 per cent from 384,700 tonnes and a rise of 2.74 per cent from 11.542 million tonnes, respectively.
China produced 6.8 million tonnes of alumina in November 2023 versus 7.02 million tonnes in October. That also reflected a month-on-month fall of 3.13 per cent. However, on an annual basis, China’s alumina output in November registered a decline of 4.94 per cent from 6.48 million tonnes.
From January to November 2023, China’s alumina production totalled 75.230 million tonnes, accounting for 57.9 per cent of the world’s output. China’s Y-T-D alumina production recorded a year-on-year increase of 2.9 per cent from 73.08 million tonnes, unlike the global output.
