EDITED BY : SARNALI CHAKRABORTY 4MINS READ

India is celebrating its 77th Independence Day, a journey of progress and unity. This commemoration marks the country's liberation from British colonial rule, signifying the triumph of freedom, harmony, and self-governance. And to commemorate this significant event, Vedanta Aluminium, one of India's biggest aluminium manufacturers, has launched a multi-channel campaign named '#AzadiKaAsliMatlab' (The True Meaning of Freedom).

The campaign revolves around a visually stunning video that captures the country's growth on several fronts. The video debuted on YouTube on August 14th and has been published across all the major social media platforms today (August 15th). The video also highlights the importance of aluminium as the foundation for many vital applications in today's world, propelling India's transition into a world-class manufacturing and innovation centre. Apart from the video, there will also be a print campaign titled "Aluminium from the Earth Takes India to the Skies," published today.

Aluminium is aiding contemporary transportation, such as aluminium-bodied trains and aircraft, which helps bring them closer together. Similarly, the movie emphasises how aluminium addresses national security demands via its significant usage in electronics, satellites, rockets, military equipment, fighter planes, and other applications.

Expanding on this idea, the film connects freedom to liberation from urban and rural poverty, poor infrastructure, and even restricted reliance on foreign imports, with aluminium, a crucial metal, serving as the uniting thread. Aluminium has established itself as a major raw resource necessary for a self-sufficient India, liberating it from supply and geopolitical instability due to its diverse qualities. Building on aluminium's ubiquity as the world's second-most significant metal today, the campaign uses the 'metal of the future' as a metaphor for being free in the twenty-first century.

Aluminium's amazing adaptability and India's capacity to manufacture it responsibly heralds a watershed moment in the country's industrial environment. The metal is crucial in the following vital areas that are critical to a self-sufficient, resurgent India:

Hi-Tech Manufacturing: As a vital raw element for this emerging industry, domestic aluminium can propel India's emergence as the world's hi-tech manufacturing powerhouse. Aluminium and its alloys are essential for constructing contemporary aeroplanes due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and anti-corrosive properties. This makes it suitable for building drones for both industrial and military purposes.

DefenceWithin the worldwide defence industry, aluminium lends itself to various cutting-edge uses in weaponry, armour, and field communications, exemplifying the nation's self-reliance in a highly critical arena.

Building & Infrastructure: Because of its malleability, ductility, and durability, aluminium is essential in sustainable, 'green' building. This helps the country's infrastructure development by providing eco-friendly choices for a self-sufficient future. Aluminium's exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and durability have helped it gain traction in the automobile industry. It also pushes the shift to electric vehicles (EVs) and weight reduction.

Power generation and distribution: By accelerating the progress of renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and wind turbines, aluminium is playing a critical role in the worldwide shift to Net Zero. It's also necessary for electricity distribution and storage. Aluminium's unlimited recyclability has prompted the packaging industry to embrace metal for purposes such as aluminium foil and cans, representing freedom from plastic pollution while conserving the earth.

Sustainability in the global aluminium industry

Let us take a moment to reflect on the hard work and dedication that has gone into making this industry what it is today. Congratulations to everyone, and may this day bring joy and prosperity to all! Vedanta Aluminium is ranked second in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2022 global rankings for the aluminium sector, reflecting its commitment to sustainable development. With its world-class aluminium smelters, alumina refinery, the firm achieves its aim of promoting developing uses of aluminium as the 'Metal of the Future' for a greener future.
