
According to the data shown by the United States Geological Survey, the US in January 2020 imported 7,470 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars from Saudi Arabia. In December 2019, the US aluminium semi-finished product imports from Saudi Arabia were 10,300 tonnes, meaning the imports in January this year stood down by 27.48 per cent month-on-month. In November 2019, the country’s imports from Saudi Arabia were also at 10,300 tonnes. In October, the import amount was at 6,430 tonnes, down by 60.19 per cent from November and December 2019 and by 16.17 per cent from January 2020.

Thailand was the next highest exporter of aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports to the US in January 2020, providing 4,550 tonnes. In the earlier month, the United States had imported, 4,150 tonnes of aluminium semis from Thailand, meaning January saw a rise of 10 per cent in the US aluminium plates, sheets and bars imports from Thailand.
The total imports of the United States aluminium plates, sheets and bars in January 2020 saw a sharp decline of 70.35 per cent compared to 95,800 tonnes in December 2019. But the exports increased by 22 per cent from 56,100 tonnes in December 2019 to 68,200 tonnes in January 2020. Canada was the leading destination of export, with 30,900 tonnes in January 2020, followed by Mexico with 26,100 tonnes.
