Uno Minda, a leading automotive components and systems manufacturing company, is setting up an aluminium die-casting plant in Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, after the board approved an INR 210 crore (USD 25.15 million) investment. The firm added 2.23 per cent post-approval to set up the greenfield manufacturing facility. This expansion aims to meet the rapidly growing demand for casting components pivoted in electric EVs (two- and four-wheelers).

With the hastened movement towards electric vehicles, the demand for lightweight and high-performing vehicle platforms is where aluminium die casting is becoming critical. Advanced die-casting capabilities are required within the EV's aluminium-based structure and thermal capabilities, especially for the EV powertrain and the body application.
The upcoming facility will tactically create backwards integration efforts by providing key casting components for the scheduled four-wheeler EV powertrain plant. Additionally, this facility is strategically placed in Sambhaji Nagar to achieve higher logistical efficiency by building a close vicinity between the EV power train plant and the regional Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers.
The project will be developed in a phased manner within the next five years. Disbursals of the investment would be done via a mixed balance of debt and internal accruals.
Further, this investment shall aid Uno Minda's long-term dedication to bolstering domestic manufacturing, increasing localisation and sustaining its competitive advantage in the fast-changing electric mobility sector.
Commercial operations commencement for phase 1 of the facility is scheduled to begin by the second quarter of the financial year 2026-27, aiming to achieve an additional 3,629 tonnes per year.
