EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Alcoa Corporation, an integrated bauxite, alumina and aluminium producer, has announced today that members of the United Steelworkers (USW) have finally ratified a new labour agreement bringing an amicable end to the long term negotiation. The new contract will cover about 1,700 active employees at five U.S. locations.

The Company and the United Steelworkers came to a tentative agreement in August as the union members decided to vote on the proposed four-year contract. United Steelworkers District 7 Director and the chief negotiator from United Steelworkers Michael Millsap announced in the first week of September that the employees would soon ratify the contract. The USW announced the outcome of that vote on Thursday, Sept. 19.

“We appreciate the contributions from our union employees at each of these locations,” said Leigh Ann Fisher, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Alcoa. “We are pleased to have in place an agreement that will position our Company and employees for future success,” she added.

The new agreement covers employees at five U.S. locations of Alcoa— Massena, Warrick Operations in Indiana, Gum Springs in Arkansas, Wenatchee Works in Washington and Point Comfort in Texas.

Alcoa expects additional operating expenses of about US$10 million in Q3 2019 related to the ratification of the agreement.
