UAE’s aluminium experts display their expertise at TMS annual meeting

UAE’s aluminium sector’s experts will address business leaders, scientists and engineers from all over the world at one of the leading industry events, the TMS Annual Meeting and Exhibition, which started on Feb 16 in the US.

The TMS 2014 will be held in San Diego, California till February 20. The exhibition aims at bringing expert people from metals, minerals and materials sector to exchange their knowledge in technology and science.

The representatives of Emirates Aluminium (Emal) and Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) presented five papers at TMS conference.

DX Reduction Cell Technology was developed by the Dubal, which offers productivity as well as environmental performance, is also used by Emal to produce the aluminium.

The technology operates at high amperage and enables the metal to be produced using less energy along with reduced emissions. The quality and purity level of the metal is retained.

Five pots using DX+ Ultra Reduction Cell Technology are currently under construction at Jebel Ali smelter of Dubal. It is expected these pots will operate at 460 kA and offer lower specific energy consumption as well as lower capex – yet higher production per surface area of the potline.

The papers highlighted the technological developments in lectures entitled ‘Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions during Aluminium Smelting through Development and Implementation of Improved Control Strategies and Operational Practices’; and another on a process control-related topic.

The representative of Emal outlined the operational plan which helped the company to achieve the safest, fastest, and uninterrupted start-up all over the world.
